Group Discussion - DO's and DON'Ts

Hi all,

Group Discussion is an important process of recruitment. It tests the communication skills, leadership skills, knowledge and power of expression of a candidate.

G.D, as it is abbreviated, is not a cake walk. Many of us would be aware of the major DO's and DON'Ts but there are few very important points that are rarely taught and unnoticed by many.

If you follow these rarely told points you will make a mark, get more points and your chance of being selected is high.

DO’s

 1)   Eye contact.

The most important non verbal part of communication. When you are talking, look at EVERYONE in your batch. Don’t miss a single person.

 2)   Introduction.

Introduce yourself and the topic briefly before shooting your points. Don’t start with the content before introducing.  The organization is not looking for a dictionary or a directory. They are looking for a human.

3) Body Language and Voice Modulation.

When you speak you express just 20% through words, the remaining 80% is delivered through Body Language and Voice Modulation. Huge proportion… isn’t it?  So concentrate more on your non verbal part of communication

NOTES: Generally if there is a table in between the batch, it is usually high enough to hide your gestures. Make sure your gestures are visible to your batchmates.

4) Nod your head.

When your batchmate is talking, do have an eye contact with him and nod your head gently. This will earn you points and an evident for your Listening Skills.

5) Sit comfortably.

Don’t sit at the corner of the chair with arms unresting. It’s a Group Discussion, not a horror film or a nail biting match. Occupy your chair completely.

6) Speak with enthusiasm and impact.

Impress everyone.

DON’Ts

1)        Don’t look at the jury.

If you keep looking at the person evaluating you, it indicates you feel insecure. Not a good message to the recruiter.

 2) Fidgeting restricted.

None likes it. It indicates the doer is neither confident nor concentrating. Mind your hand.

3) Don’t tap your leg.

You are not in a dance floor. No matter how excited (read nervous) you are don’t tap your leg.

4) Don’t cross your hands.

You cannot express through your body and will be unable to express the 80% of your content.

5)  Never use fillers between sentences.

You know well you should not but you might do this. Never use “hmmm…”, “ahh..” or whatever noise you can make. NEVER.

Follow these points and let success follow you.

If you have valuable points to share, kindly share your views in comments.

The Worst Disobedience in College

In my college there is a strict rule to keep students away from lawns. Students knowingly or unknowingly toil the lawns by sitting on it, walking or at times running over it.

But this tough guy is eating it out and still no disciplinary action has been taken against him and none dared to stop him.

Clicked in the campus of Karpagam College of Engineering, in front of auditorium.

How to Cut Copy Paste in android 4 Icecream Sandwich

Dear android buddies :)

When I got my Sola upgraded to android 4 Icecream Sandwich, I was unable to cut or copy my text, which is essential for sms, whats app and every other text based application.

I googled, researched in various android forums but could not find the solution. The given solutions didn't work :(

Later I accidentally learnt it myself :D

It is very simple and much more user friendly than those in previous versions of android

STEP 1 : Type the text.

Step 2: TO CUT OR TO COPY
- Double click the text.

In this picture you could see two pointers.

You shall move both the pointers to select the text.

At the top, you could see the menu box.

You shall choose CUT (second sign) or COPY(third sign).

STEP 3: TO PASTE - LONG PRESS
 THE TEXT TAB

Yes, just click on the PASTE option popping on the screen. You are done :) :) :)

Voyage to see Vishwaroopam

Yes time has come to go to another state to watch a movie made in native language, Vishwaroopam (rated 9.2 in IMDB).

You can read the reviews of this excellent movie by professionals. But none can tell the experience and the real atmosphere of  watching this movie in another state other than the one who has experienced it. Yes thats me!!!

The pictures will prove that theatres of Tamil Nadu has missed a good business.

Queue in front of ticket counter (even 1 hour ahead of show)

I was lucky today. I got the last ticket of the show. People from coimbatore travel more than 28kilometre to watch this movie in kerala.

Every show is running houseful.

This is what theatres in Tamil Nadu miss. People don't want to miss the movie. They take strains just to watch the movie. A good business is delayed.
This is the queue for getting ticket for the next show during the interval of current show.

Getting a ticket is not an easy task. Even if you get one, you should face these difficulties.

*You should be standing in the queue one and a half hour before the show time under hot sun if it is not a night show.

*You may be beaten by cops if you are displaced in the queue.

*YOU MAY NOT GET A SEAT EVEN IF YOU GET A TICKET!!!!

 No seat for young men

At the end of the movie, it is shown as Vishwaroopam will be continues as a series and its second part will be based on India. Will it be released in Tamil Nadu?!!!!

EXTRAORDINARY ACHIEVERS - 1 Karoly Takacs

Every Olympic gold medalist is special, intensively trained and they are arguably the world's best in their respective sport. They command respect and inspire a generation. The pain they take to honour their country makes them legends.

There are few who are the legend of legends, the greatest of greatest.......... the KING of Kings.

Karoly Takacs is one such person.

Karoly Takacs was a sergeant in the Hungarian army. He had won most major national and international championships. The 28 year old shooter is the hot favourite to win gold in 1940 Tokyo Olympics.

           But disaster struck.

At an army training session, a hand grenade accidentally exploded and blew away Karoly's right hand, his shooting hand. Karoly lost his limb. A hand that would have earned him an Olympic gold medal, that could have turned him a hero for his hard work in the past years is lost.

An irreplaceable damage . A lost that cannot be compensated.

If he had been a mediocre, he would have brooded over his fate, wallowed in self-pity and might have lost his entire life thinking of what he had lost.

But Karoly was made of sterner stuff. Winners never worry about what they have lost, winners focus on what they still have.  Karoly thought like a winner.

After a month in hospital, Karoly went away from the glare of the world. He lost his right hand but he had a strong, willing mind and a left hand. He trained, trained hard and made his left hand, a shooting hand equivalent to his right hand.

Think how difficult this transformation would have been. Just use the mouse in your left hand, brush or try to type a message  using your left hand to understand the difficulty of training the alternate hand. The bull's eye is just the size of full stop. Yes the very size of a (.) full stop !! And Karoly got the target with his left hand.

He made his left hand the best shooting hand in the world.

Winning is less about skills, more about attitude.

Karoly Takacs won the gold medal at the 1948 Olympics in London. He did not stop with that because winners do not limit themselves.

Karoly Takacs won a second gold medal at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, again using his left hand

Karoly Takacs is one of my inspiration. Prakash Iyer (@prakashiyer )introduced Karoly Takacs to me in his book  The Habit of Winning .
